Slashdot | Software-Generated Paper Accepted At IEEE Conference.
The paper that was accepted at a poster at a fairly high ranking IEEE conference was really generated by a computer. And if you read the paper, you will realize that it’s really random. Each sentence has nothing to do with the past sentence. The paper is really terrible but it was accepted nonetheless. I guess it should give me hopes that my next paper can be accepted, too. Take a look at the paper if you’re interested, but here’s a warning: It’s really terrible!

Software Patterns Don’t Compute

http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/jul05/1557/3

Although it’s not possible to patent mathematical algorithms, if there is some technology attached to the algorithms then they can be patented. Therefore, the courts are granting patents to pure mathematics because it’s become only possible to do with a computer. Thus we have people patenting the code and preventing others from coding the same thing, like Amazon’s one-click shopping patent.
